Captain Edward James Ruppelt

Captain Edward James Ruppelt (1923-1960) was a United States Air Force officer and the head of Project Blue Book, a government study of unidentified flying objects (UFOs):
- Coined the term "unidentified flying object"
Ruppelt replaced the terms "flying saucer" and "flying disk" with the term "unidentified flying object". - Led Project Blue Book
Ruppelt was the director of Project Grudge from late 1951 until it became Project Blue Book in March 1952 - Led Project Blue Book
Ruppelt led Project Blue Book from 1952 to 1953, during the Korean War. He oversaw the project's most productive years, when investigations were conducted without judgment. - Wrote The Report on Unidentified Flying Objects
Ruppelt's book is considered a key work in the history of UFO studies. It includes his personal investigations, findings, and assessments of some UFO cases. - Inspiration for UFO research
Ruppelt is considered a pioneer of UFO research and a hero in the fight to gain respectability for the field.
Ruppelt was born in Grundy Center, Iowa on July 17, 1923 and died in Long Beach, California from a heart attack on September 15, 1960.
